KL Summit: appearance of Sophia ‘attracts’ Dr Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — ‘Sophia’ who will make her appearance at the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 gets special attention from the Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The 94-year old leader who paid a visit to the summit’s venue at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in this capital to observe its preparation had commented that ‘one thing’ was still lacking on the humanoid robot in terms of the overall preparation.

“The preparation seems good, I am satisfied, I feel the programmes arranged were also good.

“Only one thing remains because our Sophia appears to be bald-headed, so a little hair may be good,” he told reporters when met after concluding his visit.

The summit, which will take place from tomorrow until Saturday is slated to be graced by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riáyatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Meanwhile, Serba Dinamik’s senior vice president for special projects and training division Dr Mohamed Ackiel Mohamed said the robot known with the capability of displaying human-like expression and interacting with people was brought in by the company at the request of Dr Mahathir himself.

He told Bernama that the robot would make an appearance and give a short welcoming speech to all delegates right after the opening ceremony on Thursday.

“Thereafter, the robot will be displayed at the exhibition area at the Serba Dinamik display booth until the conclusion of the Summit Meeting,”he said.

The summit aims to, among others, discuss and find new solutions to problems facing the Muslim world as well as to improve the wellbeing of Muslims and Muslim countries in general.

It also aims to bring together Muslim leaders, scholars, ulama and thinkers from around the world, and revive Islamic civilisation.
