5 June 2021 – Starting out as a rotating equipment service provider in 1993, Serba Dinamik has grown over the past 28 years to become a leader in Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services in the oil and gas field. Today, the company has a presence in 25 countries in six regions around the world – a reflection of its strong commitment to service and technical excellence.
The company, is a juggernaut of drive and ambition. Having established itself as a powerhouse in the O&G engineering sector, Serba Dinamik has continuously leveraged on its capacity and capabilities as an O&G service provider, to tap into new avenues of growth and raise stakeholder value.
Simply put, Serba Dinamik is reimagining Frontier Technology for Malaysians. And the world beyond.
Getting Ready for Sustainable I4.0 Future
Two words dominate the business landscape today– Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and Sustainability. At a time when I4.0 concepts such as automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), X-Reality (Cross Reality or XR), and Robotics are seen as the future of industries, Serba Dinamik keeps pace with shifting trends.
In its journey to becoming a global first-choice total engineering service provider, Serba Dinamik is ever cognisant of the connection this sector has with environmental degradation. Living and creating ESG goals as an inherent part off the organisations psyche, it is determined to reduce its own carbon footprint in its various operations.
Managing Director Dato’ Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah says it best “14.0 is the answer. Big data powered by AI allows for predictive and prescriptive analytics, which allows companies to better analyse how their processes impact the environment and also encourage the optimal use of resources, materials and energy.”
As such, Serba Dinamik’s commitment to Frontier Technology is reflected in its goal of reducing dependency on O&G revenue to around 45% by 2022, and increasing the revenue share of non-O&G to 55% during that same year.
By using ICT and Frontier Technology to expand into the non-O&G sector, the company aims to increase its gross sales revenue and raise stakeholders’ returns, as well as strengthen operational excellence.
Avant Garde Innovative Solutions for O&G
An MSC-status company, Serba Dinamik IT Solutions Sdn Bhd (SDIT) has been at the forefront of driving Serba Dinamik’s advances in the fields of Smart technology, Fintech, AI, Data Science, X-Reality, Robotics, Blockchain, Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing. And it has been doing so through strategic partnerships with various research institutions, most notably the prestigious Stanford University in California.
SMART Maintenance with Stanford AI Lab
Winner of the Digital Innovation Award at the 2019 World Congress on Information Technology, this web-based system powered by AI, X-Reality and Cloud technology, was developed by SDIT using SAIL’s unique open-source machine learning development tools and in partnership with an R&D team from University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UNIMY).
By providing data-driven analytics for O&M activities such as equipment performance, procurement, inventory and manpower management among others, SMART Maintenance enables greater efficiency in operations.
This innovative solution is currently being used in Serba Dinamik’s operations at Paka, Terengganu as well as for the company’s procurement system at its Headquarters in Shah Alam, Selangor.
X-Reality Solutions for the O&G industry
This proprietary software by SDIT allows engineers and technicians to interact virtually with 3D models – or Digital Twins – of plants, equipment and process, and carry out real time tests and simulations.
As the Digital Twin is an exact digital copy of the physical plant or equipment, this enables O&M projects to be better planned and executed. This saves on time and costs, and reduces accidents and mishaps on site. Digital Twins can also be used for offsite experts to provide remote assistance to on-site engineers and technicians.
The potential for X-Reality is huge as it can be deployed in a number of applications. Aside from the aforementioned uses, SDIT is supplying X-Reality software and hardware to Indonesian O&G company Pertamina for its Virtual Reality HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) Training Centre in Balikpapan, Indonesia.
Trainees at the facility are able to experience immersive and interactive scenarios, that will help them deal with real HSE issues in the O&G field… all while remaining safe.
The AI-Robotics Unmanned Platform
While robots are already in use in offshore rigs, this joint-venture project with SAIL – known as Roborig – will take the current capabilities of robotic rig workers and move it to a whole new level. Thanks to the integration of haptic technology, Roborig will be equipped with state-of-the-art sensory technology such as stereo cameras, lidar mapping, force/torque sensing.
This enables it to navigate itself around the rig and carry out tasks autonomously, while at the same time, a remote human operator is on stand-by to perform delicate operations. This will help companies save on manpower costs, but also reduce the risks of onsite accidents.
Enhancing Lives and Business
Serba Dinamik’s focus on I4.0 technology is not just related to the O&G industry, but to a wider world of applications – making everyday life better and safer for people, helping to safeguard the environment and spurring interest in technology amongst the younger generation while keeping families entertained.
AI-LENS – A Drone Solution
As an ESG conscious company, Serba Dinamik is helping to safeguard the environment through the deployment of its AI drone solution – AI-LENS. Using advanced Computer Vision technology, AI-LENS is mounted on drones and is equipped with different types of cameras such as RGB, multispectral, thermal, and long wave infrared (LWIR).
These can then be used to detect environmental hazards and anomalies such as oil spills and illegal dumping sites, as well as landscape and environmental changes over a greater area than is possible through physical surveillance.
Real time transmission of information back to the operator enables quick and effective response. At present, SDIT is deploying AI-LENS at the Teluk Ramunia Yard in Johor as well as in a port in the Middle East.
AIPODS – Saving Lives
Serba Dinamik’s AIPODS solutions uses AI to help detect and report road hazards such as potholes, obstructions and water ponding in real time. This will enable the authorities to know where the anomalies are and work towards addressing them.
Given that potholes are a significant cause of fatal road accidents in Malaysia, AIPODS will help make roads safer for motorists in Malaysia, and eventually around the world.
D-Virtual Park – Entertaining The Future
The company, fully aware of the family-friendly and fun applications of Frontier Technology, has deployed X-Reality content to D-Virtual Park, which offers a range of virtual, augmented and mixed reality games.
D-Virtual Park has operations in Kota Samarahan in Sarawak and EVO Mall in Bangi, Selangor, with planned expansion to Johor, Kelantan and the Middle East. Through this initiative, Serba Dinamik is not only helping to keep families entertained, it is helping create a future generation of youth with inherent AI expertise
Pandemic ? D-Virtual Expo to the rescue!
SDIT’s credentials and credibility as an innovative company has been further enhanced by the speed with which it responds to pressing needs. Noting that the on-going COVID-19 pandemic has severely restricted physical events, SDIT rapidly developed and deployed D-Virtual Expo, which uses virtual reality to create immersive digital events, thus ensuring the continuity of the events and exhibitions sector.
Since its development in 2020, D-Virtual Expo has been used for a number of events, most notably MARA E-Jana Niaga for local SMEs to promote their services and IMM Week which was an academic and industrial conference. The technology is in line to be used to deliver the first International Architectural Education Exhibition & Conference and the first ever online-merge-offline Malaysia E-Sports Summit.
Smart Solutions for Smart Cities
In April 2020, Serba Dinamik managed to secure another feather in its cap when its subsidiary Serba Dinamik International Ltd (SDIL) was awarded a US$1.78 billion engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for Innovation Hub Block 7 project in Abu Dhabi.
Located in the Abu Dhabi Advanced Industries District (ICAD V), the Block 7 Innovation Hub aims to transform city life by integrating smart solutions and advanced technologies into everyday life. In doing so, it will enhance the quality of living, working, studying and R&D in urban spaces.
Serba Dinamik has been, is and always will be a visionary company. One of Dato’ Karim’s go-to phrases is “Everything the human mind can perceive, can be achieved” – this collective spirit of the organisation has been the invisible hand behind Serba Dinamik’s meteoric rise and will continue to be the propelling force to keep them moving forward continuously to brave new frontiers. The on-going COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced just how important innovation and technology is to the future of business. And Serba Dinamik has strategically engineered itself to be precisely where the future is. And in doing so, creating value – not only for its shareholders but also to Malaysia, people and the wider world as a whole.
