KUCHING: Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) welcomed 416 new students for its December intake and received a new bus during the closing ceremony of an orientation week at PKS here, yesterday.
Director of Politeknik Kuching, Jamaliah Ahmad said the new students would be taking diploma courses in Engineering, Business and Information Technology.
“The orientation week is a programme of transition process that needs to be experienced by all new students of PKS. During the orientation, the new students are introduced to the staff and student leaders in the campus.
“Activities covered during the orientation week focused on lifestyle, rules and self-discipline, such as clothing etiquettes and time management. This is important as you are carrying the image to the institution and will reflect on how our students would become future role models as well as future leaders of the country,” she said.
She assured the new students that they would be safe and provided with proper accommodation for their comfort and security during their studies in PKS.
At the function, Jamaliah received a 44-seater bus donated by the chief executive officer of Serba Dinamik Holdings Sdn Bhd, Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah to the college.
“The bus will provide convenient transportation to students especially those who stay outside the campus as the campus could only accommodate about 50 per cent of the students. The rest stay about 12 kilometres away from the campus.
“Therefore with this new bus, it will ease students’ worries on transportation and reduce the problem of delays and failure to attend classes,” she said.
She thanked Abdul Karim, who is also PKS industry advisor for donating the bus and wished the new students best of luck in their studies.
