In collaboration with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to organise Environmental Sustainability Programme which involved students from University Technology Petronas Perak and families from Kampung Jepak, Bintulu, Sarawak. They were taught the Bokashi composting method which involves recycling food scraps into organic compost fertilisers which is then used to grow agricultural produce. These students share the composting method with their respective foster families as cultural and knowledge exchange.
Part of our support for the Go Green campaign for environmental care awareness, our employees planted tress within the compound of our Labuan Service Centre to achieve the goal of fostering more harmonious and healthy community life.
We are committed to pursue alternative renewable and clean energy during years by maintaining our investment in companies at approximately 59 MW. In line with our Group’s support for the innovation of renewable energy, we were on of the sponsors for the Eco Photon Solar Racing Team, Malaysia’s sole participant from University Technology Mara (UITM) to participate in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge which took place in Australia. The team completed 3,000km journey from Darwin to Adelaide.
Serba Dinamik Indonesia and Ecubes Arcola continued to deliver clean energy infrastructure based on hydrogen technology. This initiative kick-started with 90 students from 30 Junior High Schools in Surabaya. Students were challenged to build-design-race hydrogen powered model cars using custom-designed lego kits and 1.5M miniature hydrogen fuel cells to create the most energy efficient vehicle.
Moving forward, the British Embassy in Indonesia and the Surabaya City Government together with Serba Dinamik Indonesia and Ecubes Arcola will work together in developing the first zero emission bus using hydrogen fuel cell.
We have actively invested in renewable energy assets in line with our mission to become a sustainable and environmentally responsible company. Through our asset ownership business model, we increased our investments in companies involved in hydropower generation and biogas power generation. This bring our Group’s renewable energy portfolio to approximately 59 MW.
We are mindful of the significance and importance of our efforts and impact on the environment and the ecosystem as a whole. Therefore, we are determined to constantly monitor the impact of our business operations on the environment and biodiversity in any field or area we work on. We maintain that we must always maintain a positive impact that promotes reducing our carbon footprint and the footprint of our stakeholders as well as to nurture and protect natural biodiversity in the ecosystems surrounding our operations.
We further integrated this mindset in our policies and frameworks to ensure that all our stakeholders are aware and uphold the same standards and work towards lowering our carbon footprint, minimize any forms of pollution we make, and protect nature and the environment around us. We also developed several objectives and operating procedures that ensure that we minimize our resource consumption by at least 5% as well as minimize any form of waste generate.
We realise that our duties do not end by minimizing our carbon footprint and improving our waste production alone. Therefore, we embarked on a proactive approach to promote biodiversity and improve the overall habitat for the creatures surrounding as well as work towards a better environment. As a result, we worked in collaboration with University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Bintulu Development Authorities in planting mangrove at Bintulu, Sarawak.
Serba Dinamik spent over RM1 million during FYE2020 on Waste Management Systems with good facilities to ensure that we can improve our waste management and achieve our strict waste management targets.
To assert our commitment towards sustainability, Datuk Hj. Abdul Kadier Sahib the co-founder and member of the board of directors of Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad personally over-sought the adherence to the environmental standards across our operations. As a result, we ensured that our latest constructed facility (BEIH) is certified with a Green Building Index from GBI Malaysia. We also imposed resources consumption and waste management measures in our policies in order to minimize our waste production and ensure prudent use of resources. As a result the total produced waste of all kinds generated locally does not exceed 6,000 Metric Tonnes during FYE2020.
We ensure that our operations must at all times comply if not surpass the relevant market environmental standards. Serba Dinamik is certified with the ISO 14001:2015 for local (EMS 00849) and international (EMS 00676) which are annually audited by SIRIM QAS International. As a result of our consistent performance, SIRIM QAS International issued a zero Non Conformance Requirement certificate for the past three years assuring our strict adherence to the relevant environmental standards.
In the past 3 years, we have achieved zero incidents of non-compliance with water quality. We strictly monitor our water quality with a quality testing being performed every month as per compliance with EQ (industrial effluent) Regulations 2009.
Furthermore, we continuously create awareness among our workers trough campaigns, announcement, environment bulletin and activities to reduce utility usage. This is to achieve our target reduction of water consumption by 5% every 10,000 manhours.
